After winning his first Oscar for playing the character in Joker, Joaquin Phoenix has set his sights on something smaller.

Veteran director Ridley Scott and Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix are teaming up another time for a period feature, titled “Kitbag”, which may see the “Joker actor play French leader and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

Phoenix won Best Actor at the Academy Awards for Joker earlier this year, also as similar Best Actor awards from the Golden Globes, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild.

“Kitbag”, the film’s title, springs from the old saying “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag”. A kitbag is a long narrow bag which is used by soldiers to carry clothes and other personal possessions.

The project may be a clever and private combat Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and sometimes volatile relationship together with his wife and one true love, Josephine.

The intention of the film is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as a unprecedented leader and war visionary.

The film is about at 20th Century Studios, where the filmmaker’s production banner Scott Free has its deal. Scott and Kevin Walsh are to produce.
